An Unusual Romance:
Andrew – Before I got saved, one of my ambitions was to have Baby-Mothers (women who bred for me outside wedlock) all over the country! I wanted to have kids all over the place but wasn’t particularly keen to become a loving father to those illegitimate children. As soon as I became a born again Christian my priorities changed – thank goodness! Suddenly all I wanted to do was (and still is) love God and others.
Lynne – I asked my friend to test the water and tell Andrew that I liked him. We decided to make a move during lunchtime at one of the Church meetings. I was so anxious about his reaction!
That day, I saw a vision of Andrew, I and my children at the altar with the classic hymn ‘showers of blessing’ being sung in the backdrop. However, after my friend had spoken to Andrew, he came down, beckoned to me and said that he was flattered but not ready to get married yet. I felt so stupid, but God kept saying ‘it’s Andrew’.
Andrew started avoiding me at one point although I sometimes caught him watching me closely at church. It was a bit of an awkward situation to say the least but I kept praying over it. The more I questioned God, the more he insisted that Andrew was the one.
My friend wisely suggested that I ask Andrew to pray over the matter and hear from God himself - which I did. Andrew agreed to do this but meanwhile I had to wait. I did lose faith and remember writing him a letter saying, ‘forget it’. That’s when he came to my home and prayed with me, asking God to provide a good husband for me!
Whilst at church one day, I received word (from a friend who was babysitting) that my son, Vivian, wasn’t well and I had to fetch him. Andrew was the church usher at the time so he saw me dash out and offered to accompany me on the S.O.S mission. I agreed as it was raining and he had an umbrella with him. By this time, Andrew had started to put money in my hand from time to time. I accepted it as a blessing (he was preparing to provide for his household without realising it).
Anyway, we hurried to the house where I rushed upstairs to make sure Vivian was okay. Thankfully he was. As I returned downstairs sometime later, I overheard Andrew telling the babysitter friend about my so called amorous interests. Andrew said that I had refused to give up my chase despite his repeated attempts to shake me off. Naturally my pride was hurt and as I was quite fed up by this time I told Andrew off and left him to the Holy Spirit. This line of action obviously worked as Andrew soon came round, professing to have received confirmation from God! He proposed to me straight away and I said “Yes!”
